edTPA for Maryland

The Maryland State Department of Education has approved edTPA as a pedagogical performance-based assessment option for candidates seeking teaching certification in the state of Maryland.

Effective July 1, 2025–August 31, 2026:

  • All teacher candidates must submit a performance-based assessment. Accepted assessments differ based on the pathway to licensure link opens in a new window.
  • No cut score is required.
  • The test must be scored nationally.

Effective September 1, 2026:

  • Teacher candidates will be required to submit an edTPA passing score.
  • The test must be scored nationally.
  • Cut scores will be determined in 2026.
